Counted Out: A Public Screening and Discussion

Location

Sherman Hall : Atrium

Date & Time

November 20, 2025, 5:00 pm7:30 pm

Description

Through a mosaic of personal stories, expert interviews, and scenes of math transformation in action, Counted Out shows what's at risk if we keep the mathematical status quo. Do we want an America in which most of us don't consider ourselves "math people"? Where math proficiency goes down as students grow up? Or do we want a country where everyone can understand the math that undergirds our society so they can participate in shaping our future?

Join us for a screening of this documentary and a discussion about implications and directions for the future of our society.

Sponsored by: The George & Betsy Sherman Center, The Honors College, The Shriver Center, The Office of Academic Opportunity Programs, Department of English, Department of Media & Communication Studies, Department of Mathematics & Statistics, and the Center for Democracy & Civic Life
